United States President Donald Trump says Iran has “requested a meeting” after last week’s exchange of strikes, adding it will be held Tuesday in Qatar.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry denies any planned talks with Washington but confirms it will dispatch an expert delegation to Doha to pursue release of frozen Iranian assets, reports Al Jazeera.
Tehran also rejects French proposals to de‑mine the Strait of Hormuz, warning Paris against “provocations” in what it calls a “sensitive and complex situation.”
Meanwhile, Israeli forces killed at least eight Palestinians in Gaza and struck southern Lebanon again, despite a ceasefire deal with Beirut.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said negotiations on a final agreement, including the nuclear programme, have yet to start.
“We have not yet entered the negotiation phase for a final agreement,” he told state broadcaster IRIB. He cited Article 13 of the Memorandum of Understanding, which makes talks conditional on implementing Articles 1, 4, 5, 10 and 11.
Article 1 calls for ending war on all fronts, including Lebanon. Article 4 requires the US to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports and withdraw forces from areas near Iranian territory.
Article 5 concerns reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Article 10 demands lifting sanctions on Iranian oil exports, while Article 11 calls for releasing frozen assets.
