Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the reason behind his decision to skip the Club World Cup, citing the need for proper rest and preparation ahead of a long and demanding season — one that culminates with the World Cup.
“I had some offers to play the Club World Cup, but I think it didn’t make sense because I prefer to have a good rest, a good preparation,” Ronaldo said.
“This season will be very long. It’s the season of the World Cup at the end of the season. So I want to be ready not only for Al-Nassr but also for the national team. That’s why I decided to play the last game in the Nations League.”
The 39-year-old Al-Nassr forward appears to be prioritising peak fitness and performance for both club and country, with Portugal once again aiming for glory in what could be Ronaldo’s final World Cup appearance.
