The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance has announced a 36-day nationwide programme starting 1 July to mark the second anniversary of the July Uprising.
Hamidur Rahman Azad, assistant secretary general of the party and coordinator of the alliance’s liaison committee, unveiled the programme at a press conference at Jamaat-e-Islami’s central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka on Thursday.
According to the alliance, the programmes aim to raise public awareness about the July Uprising, mobilise support for the proposed “July Charter,” and demand justice over alleged enforced disappearances and killings during the tenure of the previous government.
As part of the plan, seminars will be held in all districts and metropolitan areas across the country from 1 to 5 July.
On 6 July, family members of those killed during the uprising are scheduled to form a human chain in front of the National Parliament and submit a memorandum to the Speaker.
From 23 to 25 July, exhibitions and graffiti campaigns will be organised highlighting key events of the July uprising.
The alliance leaders also said commemorative gatherings will be held at important sites linked to the movement to underscore its historical significance.
The programme will conclude on 5 August with simultaneous protest rallies across districts, upazilas, and metropolitan areas nationwide.
Leaders said the extended programme is intended to intensify the ongoing political movement and pass on the spirit of the July Uprising to the younger generation.
Earlier in the day, a liaison committee meeting of senior leaders was held ahead of the announcement.
