Police and a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) forensic team have recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives from the Chhayanir Residential Area under Shah Makhdum Police Station in Rajshahi city.
The operation was launched following a distress call made to the National Emergency Service 999 by a man who had been shot.
The seized items include a foreign-made pistol, bullets, hand grenades, and a large quantity of materials used for manufacturing explosives. Police Inspector Anwar Sattar, the Media and Public Relations Officer for the 999 service, shared details of the incident on Monday.
He said, on Sunday a man named Faisal called the emergency number in a state of distress. The caller pleaded to save him, saying he had been shot and some people locked him inside a house. He requested immediate police assistance, providing his location at a house in the Chhayanir Residential Area.
The call was received by Constable Sakhawat, a 999 call-taker, who promptly alerted Shah Makhdum Police Station. ASI Shahidul Islam, a 999 police dispatcher, supervised and coordinated the overall rescue efforts.
Upon arriving at the fifth floor of the designated building, SI Momtaz Uddin and a police team found Mir Mohammad Tareq Khaled, the Convener of Rajshahi City Swecchasebak Dal, along with several others, attempting to bring the gunshot victim out of a room. Faisal was subsequently rescued with police assistance and rushed to a hospital.
