A youth aged around 25 was killed in a road accident in Mendipur area on Demra-Rampura road in the capital’s Demra area early Sunday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. The incident took place around 2am.
Demra Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Moinuddin said he rushed to the scene after receiving a call via the national emergency service, 999. Upon arrival, he found the youth lying on the road with critical injuries.
Police rescued him and took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the attending physician declared him dead around 3:30am.
Citing local witnesses, the SI added that the youth was hit by a vehicle while he was walking along the road.
The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for an autopsy. Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Crime Scene Unit is working to identify the victim.
