Bangladesh on Sunday formally began work on its first integrated Civil Aviation Master Plan (CAMP), aimed at guiding long‑term, sustainable growth of the country’s civil aviation sector.
The roadmap began with the inauguration of a workshop titled Civil Aviation Master Planning Overview at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka. It was organised by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
Discussions focused on future development plans, infrastructure expansion, and drafting an integrated master plan aligned with international standards.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam attended as chief guest, while State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat was special guest.
In her opening remarks, the minister said, “Air transport today is a key driver of economic growth, trade expansion, tourism, connectivity, and job creation. In a rapidly changing world, a modern, efficient, and sustainable aviation system is an essential foundation for national development.”
She added that creating a master plan is a prerequisite to turning Bangladesh into a future aviation hub.
The state minister noted that the government has successfully implemented several major projects in the sector. Work is underway to formally launch operations at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s third terminal by year‑end.
He also said preparations to operate Cox’s Bazar Airport as an international airport are at the final stage. Under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership, the government has taken active steps to modernize four domestic airports.
CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq presided over the session.
