Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully foiled an attempted “push-in” of 15 individuals from India through the Rokonpur border in Gomastapur upazila of Chapainawabganj early Saturday.
In a press release, BGB stated that the incident took place around 4am near international border pillar 220 MP in the Rokonpur border area.
Members of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) from the Kotalpur camp of the 88 Battalion allegedly attempted to push 15 people into Bangladesh via river route using a boat.
The group consisted of two men, eight women and five children, according to the statement.
BGB said the individuals were positioned along the zero line on the Indian side of the border when the attempt was made.
Upon receiving information, Border Guard Bangladesh intervened immediately and strongly objected to the move.
Following the intervention, the BSF later withdrew the group and took all 15 individuals back to the Indian side through the Bhabanipur area near border pillar 220/MP, the release added.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam Masum, commanding officer of the 16 BGB Battalion, confirmed the incident through the press release.
