A delegation led by Paul Frost, Commercial Counselor of the US Embassy in Dhaka, paid a courtesy call on Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju at the City Hall on Sunday afternoon.
Senior officials from both KCC and the US Embassy took part in the meeting and exchanged views on different issues.
During the discussion, the US delegation expressed interest in working with Khulna City in several sectors, including healthcare services, mosquito control, infrastructure development, transport and waste management.
Welcoming the delegation, the KCC administrator briefed them on ongoing development projects across the city.
He also highlighted the adverse impacts of climate change on the region and sought technical assistance from the US government to address existing challenges.
He assured full cooperation from KCC in initiatives related to renewable energy, tourism development, mosquito eradication, waste-to-energy projects and road infrastructure improvement.
The administrator also sought support for modernising the city’s transport sector, including the possible introduction of electric buses or a metro rail service.
Among others, US Embassy officials Isaiah Faherty, Brandon Barnes, Giovanni Ramirez and Mashhur Alam Shet were present.
KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Chief Planning Officer Abir Ul Jabbar, Waste Management Officer Engineer Md Anisur Rahman, Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammiyul Islam and Executive Engineer Sheikh Md Masud Karim also attended the meeting.
