Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled alleged attempts by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push groups of people into Bangladesh through border points in Lalmonirhat and Meherpur.

The BSF later withdrew all individuals back into its territory amid heightened security and surveillance along the frontier.

Lalmonirhat

A total of 33 men and women allegedly brought to multiple border points in Lalmonirhat in an attempted “push-in” were eventually taken back by the BSF following a firm stance by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and continuous monitoring along the border.

BGB sources said the individuals were first spotted early Friday at three separate locations.

Of them, 11 were found at the Barakhata border under Tista Battalion (61 BGB), 10 at the Paishattibari border in Patgram, and 12 at the Dighaltari-Durgapur area in Aditmari upazila.

Following their detection, BGB deployed additional forces and took strategic positions to prevent any entry into Bangladesh.

The group remained stranded between the zero line and Indian territory throughout the day without crossing the border.

Later, on Friday night, between around 8:35pm and 8:45pm, BSF personnel from the 157 Battalion’s Chhota Madhusudan camp withdrew 11 individuals from the Burashardubi border area under Hatibandha upazila back inside the fenced zone.

In a separate incident the same night, 12 individuals positioned at the Durgapur border were also moved back into Indian territory after BSF switched off searchlights and escorted them away from the zero line.

On Saturday morning around 6:30 am, the remaining 10 individuals at the Paishattibari border under Patgram were similarly taken back.

Personnel of the 98 BSF Battalion’s Mahanadi camp reportedly opened a border gate, brought them inside the fencing, and later transported them in a pickup vehicle.

The BGB’s 15 Battalion media cell confirmed that all individuals brought for attempted push-in were eventually returned by Indian authorities.

It said the situation across all three border points is now normal, although enhanced surveillance and patrols remain in place to prevent any illegal infiltration attempts.

A statement from the Rangpur Sector Headquarters said that attempts to push individuals into Bangladesh through unfenced areas or fencing gates without following proper repatriation procedures violate international border management norms and existing bilateral understandings.

Signed by Rangpur Sector Commander Colonel SM Shafiqul Rahman, the statement added that BGB remains on maximum alert, with intensified patrols, intelligence monitoring, and necessary security measures in place across border areas.

Meherpur

In a separate incident, an attempted push-in of six individuals from India into Bangladesh was prevented by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local villagers at the Tentulbaria border in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.

The incident occurred early Saturday near sub-pillar 5 of main pillar 104 in the Hatpara area of Tentulbaria village.
BGB officials said the six individuals were still positioned near the barbed-wire fence on the Indian side of the border at the time of reporting.

According to local sources and BGB, BSF personnel attempted to push the group-three men and three women-into Bangladesh by opening the border fence.

As they attempted to cross on foot, BGB troops and local residents resisted the move, forcing them back toward the Indian side.

Locals said BSF personnel remained positioned across the border while BGB members and villagers maintained strict vigilance to prevent any unauthorised entry.

Following the incident, additional BGB personnel were deployed in the area. Loudspeaker announcements were also made warning against any attempted push-in and urging BSF to take back the individuals into their own territory.

However, no official response from BSF had been received at the time of reporting.

Additional Director of the 47 BGB Battalion, Nurul Huda, said, “No illegal entry or push-in will be accepted. BGB remains firm in preventing any such attempts along the border.”
