National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has claimed that his convoy was attacked following a border visit in Jashore, with police disputing the claim.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning after Nasiruddin Patwary visited the Sadipur border area of Benapole in Jashore. Four people were reportedly injured, according to a Facebook post by Patwary on his verified account. Police, however, said no such convoy attack took place.
In the Facebook post, Nasiruddin Patwary said that after their visit to the border area, Indian authorities had removed families allegedly pushed in the previous night after learning about their presence.
He added that the delegation inspected the site and spoke with locals to gather firsthand information. He further claimed that their convoy came under attack on the return journey and that vehicles were vandalised, leaving four people injured while others remained safe.
Patwary also said their stance remained firm on protecting human dignity, citizens’ rights and Bangladesh’s sovereignty at the border.
NCP central committee member Khaled Saifullah Jewel confirmed the incident, saying stones were thrown at two vehicles after the convoy entered the main road following the border visit. He claimed the rear glass of one vehicle was broken and people were injured.
Jewel further alleged that local BNP leaders were trying to “create confusion” over the incident. However, he said the party would not take immediate legal action and would decide on further steps later after organisational discussions.
However, Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Mirajul Islam denied any convoy attack.
He said, “No attack took place on the NCP leaders’ convoy.”
However, he also confirmed that when the convoy reached Sadipur intersection, a brick was thrown at the last vehicle of the convoy.
