Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said the government will seek the maximum punishment against the accused in the trial of the murder of seven-year-old child, Ramisa Akhtar.
He said, “Based on the information and evidence we have, we expect that the accused will receive the maximum punishment.”
The minister was speaking as chief guest at a programme for distributing footballs and financial assistance checks at the Shailkupa Upazila Parishad auditorium in Jhenaidah on Sunday.
When asked about the Constitution Amendment Committee, he replied, “The Committee has asked for five members from the opposition. They have informed us that they will decide later. We are now waiting for their decision.”
“It is our responsibility to protect society and the state from the scourge of drugs. Everyone in society must remain united against drugs. There will be no leniency in the fight against narcotics,” he added.
He also said, “The government will provide family cards to 40 million families across the country. This is our commitment. Farmer cards have already been introduced in different areas, and gradually they will be rolled out nationwide. The government has also planned to provide allowances for mosque imams and temple priests.”
The programme, chaired by District Council Administrator MA Majid, was also addressed by Deputy Commissioner Md Noman Hossain and Shailkupa Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mahfuzur Rahman.
