A Dhaka court on Sunday accepted the chargesheet against the prime accused Sohel Rana and his wife Sawpna Akhtar in connection with the rape and murder of a minor girl Ramisa Akhtar in the capital’s Pallabi area.
Following the formal acceptance of the charges, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque ordered the case to be transferred to the Children Violence Suppression Tribunal of Dhaka for the commencement of trial proceedings.
The chargesheet was submitted to the court around 3:30pm on Sunday.
According to court sources, Sohel Rana has been charged with rape and murder, while his wife faces allegations of assisting in the murder.
The prosecution has named 15 witnesses in the chargesheet to testify in the case.
Earlier on Sunday morning, police produced the two accused before the court.
The investigation team reportedly finalised the chargesheet after completing all necessary legal formalities, including the results of DNA testing.
