Workers blocked the Khulna–Jashore highway for the second straight day on Wednesday morning, demanding withdrawal of conditions imposed on raw jute exports.
The demonstrators staged the protest in front of the Bangladesh Jute Association (BJA) office, burning tyres and chanting slogans.
On Tuesday, the BJA formally called for removal of the export restrictions.
Earlier, BJA Chairman Khandaker Alamgir Kabir told a press briefing at the association’s Daulatpur office in Khulna that raw jute had been added to the list of conditional export items under Annex‑2 of the Export Policy 2024–2027 during the interim government period.
He said the decision had caused severe financial losses to exporters and left hundreds of thousands of workers and employees in the sector jobless.
Kabir alleged the move was taken without consultation with the BJA, depriving jute farmers of fair prices and obstructing foreign currency earnings.
At the press conference, he announced that demonstrations would continue from Wednesday until their demands are met.
