Long-distance bus operations in Naogaon returned to normal on Tuesday afternoon following a seven-hour suspension sparked by an assault on a driver and the vandalism of a transport counter.
The strike, which commenced at 10am on Tuesday, affected all major routes, including those to Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, and Bogura. Services were restored at approximately 5:30pm after several hours of negotiations.
The protest was triggered by an incident that occurred at around 1am on Monday, in which Shohag, a leader of Chhatra Dal, allegedly led a group of 10 to 15 youths in an attack on an Ekota Paribahan driver and the destruction of a ticket counter.
Abu Bakkar Siddique Nannu, the convener of the Naogaon Motor Workers Union and President of the District BNP, confirmed that bus movements had resumed.
He emphasised that no one involved in the assault would be spared, irrespective of their political affiliation. He further noted that the local administration has assured the union that the perpetrators will be arrested.
