The body of Jamil Ahmed Limon, a Bangladeshi PhD student murdered in the US state of Florida, reached his ancestral home in Laldoba village, Madarganj, Jamalpur, on Monday afternoon.
The ambulance carrying his remains arrived at the village at 3:20 PM on 4 May, where a large number of relatives and locals gathered to pay their final respects.
The coffin was sent from Orlando International Airport on an Emirates flight at 8:50pm (local time) on Saturday. After a transit in Dubai, the flight reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8:40am on Monday.
Funeral arrangements
Limon’s first funeral prayer (Janaza) was held at 2pm (local time) last Thursday mat the Islamic Society in the Tampa Bay area. The service was attended by students from the University of South Florida and members of the Bangladeshi community.
A second Janaza is scheduled to take place at the Laldoba High School ground following the Maghrib prayer on Monday. He will be laid to rest in the family graveyard located in the courtyard of his home, in accordance with religious customs.
Jamil Ahmed Limon, 27, and another Bangladeshi PhD student at the University of South Florida, Nahida Sultana Brishti, 27, went missing on 16 April. Their disappearance was brought to the attention of university authorities by a friend the following day.
Following an investigation, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office recovered Limon’s dismembered body on 24 April. The remains were found inside several black trash bags in the Howard Frankland Bridge area of Florida. Court documents revealed that the body was unclothed and bore multiple stab wounds.
Limon’s roommate, a US citizen identified as Hisham Abugharbeh, was arrested at his family home in connection with the killings. Following interrogation, Abugharbeh was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
US authorities also confirmed the recovery of a weapon from his possession.
