Chanchal Chowdhury is set to share screen space with Kolkata actress Paulmi Das for the first time in the upcoming film ‘Azadi’.
Directed by Suman Mukherjee, the film completed shooting in March and is currently in post-production. It follows Chanchal’s recent involvement in Bratya Basu’s project Shekar.
Set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, Azadi explores the transfer of government employees between Dhaka and Kolkata and the social and emotional tensions of the era.
Chanchal plays Selimullah, a Muslim police officer investigating a complex murder case unfolding during a politically turbulent period.
The actor has described the story as deeply human, focusing on personal conflict shaped by historical upheaval. Paulmi Das, meanwhile, has expressed enthusiasm about working with Chanchal for the first time, calling the project a distinctive experience for audiences.
Known for her work in television series such as ‘Mittir Bari’, Paulmi has also appeared in OTT projects and films in recent years.
According to the production team, Azadi is expected to be showcased at international film festivals before a theatrical release.
