Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman passed away on Friday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital.

Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Commerce, Kamal Hossain, confirmed the matter.

He breathed his last at Square Hospital in Dhaka. Mahbubur Rahman had been admitted to the hospital last Saturday in a critical condition and was suffering from malaria alongside other physical complications.

A career civil servant, Mahbubur Rahman joined the 13th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Customs and Excise) cadre in 1994. He began his service as an Assistant Commissioner at the National Board of Revenue (NBR), under the Internal Resources Division of the Ministry of Finance.

Throughout his professional career, he served in various capacities, including Deputy Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, and Additional Commissioner. His postings spanned across several Custom Houses, Custom Excise and VAT Commissionerates, and the National Board of Revenue until December 2010.
