A total of 277 new chartered accountants joined Bangladesh’s professional workforce on Saturday as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) held its 22nd convocation in Dhaka, taking the cumulative number past 2,400.
The ceremony was held at InterContinental Dhaka, the institute said in a press release.
According to the ICAB, with the latest additions, more than 2,100 chartered accountants are currently active, as many earlier members are deceased. Of the total, 1,619 are fellow chartered accountants (FCA) and 485 are associate chartered accountants (ACA).
The profession supports a growing audit ecosystem, with over 260 CA firms engaged in statutory audits, employing around 9,080 audit staff. Among them, about 800 institute members sign audit reports, supported by more than 2,200 partly qualified audit professionals.
Beyond the audit profession, ICAB members are engaged in accounting, finance and management roles in various sectors at home and abroad.
ICAB has around 49,000 enrolled students, of whom over 6,000 are actively pursuing membership.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon attended as chief guest and said chartered accountants play a critical role in ensuring financial transparency, strengthening governance and supporting sustainable economic growth.
The profession is undergoing rapid transformation due to technological advances such as artificial intelligence and data analytics, he said, urging new entrants to adapt and position themselves as strategic leaders and trusted advisers.
Integrity remains the foundation of the profession, he added.
Financial Reporting Council Chairman Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan attended as special guest.
North South University Professor Salimullah Khan, delivering the convocation speech, said chartered accountants contribute to economic and social systems beyond technical functions.
ICAB President NKA Mobin said the new members completed their examinations between November-December 2022 and November-December 2025.
ICAB has maintained global standards in professional education and served the public interest since its establishment in 1973, he said.
The new members must uphold the highest standards of ethics, integrity and professionalism and contribute to national development, he added.
They should pursue lifelong learning, take leadership roles and remain resilient in a changing professional environment, he added.
The convocation marked a milestone for the graduates and their families, recognising years of dedication and discipline, said ICAB.
