Former Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam Bulbul has now turned to the International Cricket Council (ICC) after losing his post.
The Bangladesh government removed him from office and set up a new board. Tamim Iqbal has been named the interim president. A day later, Aminul wrote to the ICC. He claimed his removal was illegal and asked the world body to step in.
He urged the ICC to act fast and protect the elected board.
“We call upon the ICC to intervene immediately to protect the sanctity of our elected board. The ‘Ad-hoc Committee’ is illegal. The probe report is illegal,” he said.
“The legitimacy of the October 6, 2025 election conducted by a neutral, three-member commission including a Supreme Court advocate and a senior CID officer cannot be questioned by any government body after the fact.”
He also rejected the investigation report.
“I unequivocally state that the report submitted on April 5, 2026, is a defective, whimsical, and legally untenable document,” he said.
“It holds no standing in the eyes of the law or the constitution of the BCB.”
The full details of his letter are still not known. But one ICC director raised questions over his move.
“It is surprising that the same Bangladesh Cricket Board, which cited the Bangladesh government’s instruction to not play in India as the reason for its non-participation in the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” the director said.
“They did this in complete disregard of a binding Members Participation Agreement with the ICC.”
The director also pointed out the change in position.
“Now they are seeking protection from the ICC and its constitution from an enquiry by and directive of its government,” he added.
Earlier, during talks with ICC officials, Aminul had taken a hard line. He was one of the most difficult officials to deal with. At one point, he even refused to continue the meeting.
At that time, he kept referring to government orders. He used those to support the board’s stance. The BCB did not want to play in India unless their demands were accepted.
