DSEX jumps 3.12% as ceasefire lifts mood

Struggling Dhaka stocks rallied sharply on Wednesday, with the benchmark index gaining 3.12 per cent, as a ceasefire announcement between Iran and the US boosted investor confidence.

The DSEX rose 161.1 points to close at 5,318, up from 5,175 in the previous session, as buying interest returned across sectors.

The market opened on a positive note and maintained upward momentum throughout the session, supported by steady participation and accumulation of beaten-down stocks, EBL Securities wrote after the closing bell.

Turnover surged to a seven-week high, jumping 66.1 per cent to Tk992 crore from Tk597 crore in the previous session, indicating renewed activity on the trading floor.

Pharmaceuticals dominated turnover with a 15.6 per cent share, followed by engineering at 12.7 per cent and banking at 12.6 per cent of the total turnover.

All sectors ended higher, with jute gaining 4.6 per cent, banking rising 4.1 per cent, and IT advancing 3.4 per cent.

Out of 397 issues traded, 365 advanced, 11 declined, and 20 remained unchanged, reflecting broad-based gains across the market.

Chattogram stocks also closed higher, with the Selective Categories Index rising 2.2 per cent 192.5 points and the All-Share Price Index gaining 2.3 per cent or 328.3 points.
