The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched a drive to clear 240 unauthorised bus counters along roads in Syedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal area on Wednesday, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and restore order.
The operation covers the stretch from TT Para intersection to Dholai Par.
The drive, conducted under the supervision of DSCC Executive Magistrate Aminul Islam with the assistance of law enforcement, targets illegal structures that have long disrupted traffic flow and caused hardship for commuters.
The move follows a coordination meeting on 10 March involving the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the Dhaka Road Transport Bus Owners’ Association, the Syedabad inter-district Bus Terminal Transport Owners’ Committee, and the Transport Workers’ Committee.
A preliminary survey identified 240 illegal counters in the area, all of which were marked for removal.
During the operation, the illegal counters were demolished, and those responsible were warned against future encroachment on roads or footpaths.
Similar clearance drives were also conducted on major routes across the city, including Moghbazar intersection to Kakrail Mosque, Matsya Bhaban, Abdul Ghani Road, Osmani Memorial Hall, and from Banglamotor to Hotel Intercontinental, Hare Road, and Shikkha Bhaban.
DSCC Public Relations Officer Rusel Rahman said the operation is part of a long-term effort to alleviate traffic congestion and improve urban management.
“This initiative is in the public interest. The operation will continue until all illegal bus counters are completely removed,” he added.
