The Ministry of Law has served show-cause notices to 28 lower court judges for posting content on Facebook related to the judiciary, directing them to submit written explanations within seven working days.

The notices, issued on Tuesday, allege that the judges expressed personal opinions about their appointing and supervisory authorities on social media, violating guidelines issued by the Supreme Court, High Court Division, regarding the use of social media.

Such actions are considered misconduct under the law.

The letters reference the Bangladesh Judicial Service (Discipline) Rules, 2017, which prohibit any conduct that undermines the discipline of office.

Under Rule 3(2) of the same regulation, the judges have been instructed to provide their written explanations within seven working days of receipt of the notice.
