Boeing has expressed interest in supplying narrow-body aircraft to Biman Bangladesh Airlines on a lease basis, as the government moves to meet growing aviation demand.
The development emerged during a courtesy meeting in Dhaka on Monday, April 6, between Boeing Vice President Paul Righi and officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam and State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat attended the discussions.
According to a press release, the talks covered various aspects of potential agreements between Boeing and Biman under the interim government.
Both sides also explored options for leasing aircraft to strengthen the country’s aviation capacity.
Boeing expressed particular interest in providing narrow-body jets from its 737 series. These aircraft, widely used for short- and medium-haul routes, are considered suitable for expanding regional connectivity.
Minister Afroza Khanam stressed the importance of expediting the leasing process to meet rising passenger demand and enhance operational efficiency. Officials said the move forms part of a broader strategy to improve fleet availability and overall performance in Bangladesh’s aviation sector.
The initiative highlights the government’s focus on rapidly increasing aircraft capacity to keep pace with the country’s growing air travel needs.
