Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said Tuesday the government is considering introducing a mix of in-person and online classes in schools nationwide to save energy.
He shared the information after a meeting on the fuel situation chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The minister said the plan is being contemplated in response to the global energy crisis triggered by the war involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
Under the proposal, schools will remain open six days a week instead of five, with at least three days of classes conducted online.
He added that 55 percent of people in metropolitan areas have expressed support for online-based classes.
A final decision is expected after a cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday.
The meeting on energy conservation was also attended by Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, State Minister Aninda Islam Amit, and senior officials from the relevant ministries.
