A daring burglary took place at the ancestral home of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir in Bagerhat late Monday night.
The culprits took advantage of a power outage during heavy rain to enter the premises, located in the town’s Amlapara area.
They reportedly cut and made off with approximately two coils of copper wire form IGP Fakir’s home, spanning from the electric meter to the power line. The estimated market value of the stolen materials is Tk60,000.
According to residents of the house, the perpetrators managed to evade CCTV cameras due to the total darkness caused by the storm-induced power failure. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning, causing a stir in the local community.
Police have detained a scrap metal dealer for questioning in connection with the theft. Investigators believe the stolen copper wires were intended for sale at a local scrap shop.
Bagerhat Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Hasan Chowdhury stated that multiple police teams have commenced operations to identify the criminals. He expressed confidence that those involved would be brought to justice swiftly.
