Renowned cultural personality and popular magazine television program ‘Ityadi’ host Hanif Sanket dedicated the prestigious Independence Award to the millions of viewers who have supported him throughout his long journey in the cultural arena.
The Cabinet Division on Thursday, March 5, announced 15 prominent individuals and five institutions as the recipients of Bangladesh’s highest civilian honor, the ‘Independence Award’ 2026. The list of eminent awardees included Hanif Sanket and the late music legend Bashir Ahmed (posthumously) for their special contributions to the country’s culture.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Sanket expressed his joy after the Government of Bangladesh honored him with the country’s highest civilian award, the Independence Award, in the field of culture this year.
“I am delighted to announce that the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has awarded me the Independence Award in culture this year,” he wrote.
The celebrated presenter and cultural figure said the achievement is not his alone; the recognition belongs to everyone whose love, support and cooperation made his long journey in the cultural field possible.
“On this joyful day, I express my gratitude to all of them,” he said, adding that he dedicates the award to his countless viewers.
Sanket also emphasised the importance of healthy cultural practices in building a progressive society. He said he firmly believes that a positive and constructive culture can enlighten society and bring honor to the country.
“I want to continue working for the country through the practice of healthy culture for the rest of my life,” he added.
The veteran media personality further said he will continue to fulfil his responsibilities as he has in the past. According to him, receiving the award will inspire him to move forward with greater commitment.
Sanket concluded his message by seeking prayers and support from well-wishers so that he can continue contributing to the country’s cultural development.
Born as AKM Hanif on October 23, 1958 in Barishal, Hanif Sanket established himself as the country’s most popular and successful television host of ‘Ityadi’, the flagship magazine show of Bangladesh Television (BTV) and the most popular Bangladeshi magazine show of all time.
As a writer, producer, comedian, voice actor, and singer, Hanif Sanket received the Ekushey Padak, Bangladesh’s second-highest civilian award, in 2010.
