Two people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a microbus in Gournadi upazila of Barishal on Friday morning.
The accident occurred around 10:30 am in the Kasba area on the Dhaka–Barishal highway.
The deceased were identified as Md Ilias Hossain, 57, son of Abdul Wahid of New Market area in Dhaka, and microbus driver Md Ripon, a resident of Barishal city.
The injured were identified as Md Moniruzzaman, 40, of Khilkhet area in Dhaka, Nuruzzaman, 42, of Muradpur, and Abdul Wazed, 30, of Mongla area in Bagerhat.
Gournadi Fire Service Station Officer Md Mizanur Rahman said a Khulna-bound bus named Tekerhat Express collided head-on with a Barishal-bound microbus, leaving the microbus badly mangled.
Five people, including the driver of the microbus, were critically injured in the crash.
Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured before sending them to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex.
The on-duty doctor declared two of them dead, including the microbus driver, he said.
Gournadi Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shamim Sheikh said traffic movement on the highway was temporarily halted after the accident.
The two damaged vehicles were removed from the highway and seized, and traffic has now returned to normal, he added.
