A man allegedly murdered his wife and two-year-old daughter then dies in suicide attempt in Naogaon.
According to police, the incident took place late Thursday night at their residence in Balramchak Chowdhurypara area in Atrai upazila.
The deceased, Raj Sarkar Joy, 35, son of Gautam Sarkar, reportedly attacked his wife, Drishti Sarkar, and daughter, Jenny Sarkar, with a knife, before inflicting a fatal wound on his own neck.
Neighbours discovered the bodies on Friday morning after noticing the house door was closed and hearing no activity inside.
Joy was immediately taken to Atrai Upazila Health Complex. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was being transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment and died during the journey.
Local residents said they heard screams from the house during the night.
“In the morning, we became concerned when the door remained shut. Upon entering, we found the wife and child dead, and Joy critically injured,” said neighbour Anand Kumar.
OC of Atrai Police Station, Abdul Karim, said “Joy had a history of drug use and suffered from mental health issues. Preliminary investigations suggest he first killed his family and then attempted suicide.”
He added “Authorities are probing to determine whether anyone else was involved. The bodies have been sent to Naogaon General Hospital for autopsy, and a case has been initiated.”
