A complaint has been filed against four individuals in connection with the murder of Asma Sadiya Runa, assistant professor and head of the Social Welfare Department at Islamic University, Kushtia.
The victim’s husband Md Imtiaz Sultan filed the complaint with the Islamic University Police Station on Thursday morning.
Those named as suspects are university staff member Fazlur Rahman, former assistant registrar Bishwajit Kumar Biswas, and assistant professors Shyam Sundar Sarkar and Md. Habibur Rahman.
Officer-in-Charge Md Masud Rana confirmed that the complaint has been submitted and the matter is under investigation.
Following a post-mortem at Kushtia General Hospital morgue around 10am, Runa’s body was handed over to her family. Colleagues and relatives have demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible.
The funeral was held after Zohr prayers at the central Eidgah ground in Kushtia on Thursday, and she was laid to rest at the Kushtia Municipal Graveyard. Runa, who lived in the Government College Mor area of Kushtia, is survived by three daughters and a son.
According to police, the incident took place Wednesday around 4 p.m. in her office at the Faculty of Theology and Islamic Studies, where she was stabbed by Fazlur Rahman.
The assailant later attempted suicide by inflicting a wound on himself and is currently receiving treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.
