Sahibzada Farhan once again demonstrated his class as he scored a brilliant century to guide Pakistan in a must-win clash against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. In a record-breaking partnership with Fakhar Zaman, the duo amassed 212 runs, keeping Pakistan in contention for a World Cup semi-final spot.
Farhan reached 100 from just 60 balls, hitting five sixes and nine fours. This century marked his second of the tournament, making him the first player in T20 World Cup history to score two centuries in a single edition.
With this innings, Farhan surpassed Virat Kohli’s 2014 record of 319 runs in a single T20 World Cup, setting a new benchmark of 383 runs in six innings at an average of 76.00 and a strike rate of 160.25, including two centuries and two fifties.
Opening with Fakhar Zaman, who contributed a well-paced 84 from 42 balls, the pair put on 176 runs for the first wicket – the highest opening stand of the tournament and surpassing New Zealand’s 175-run partnership for any wicket earlier in this edition.
This 176 run stand also ranks as Pakistan’s third-highest partnership in T20 cricket.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat. Farhan and Fakhar provided a flying start, scoring 64 runs in the powerplay. Farhan reached his fifty from just 32 balls, overtaking Kohli on the way to the record for most runs in a single T20 World Cup edition. Fakhar’s fifty came in the 12th over, and the pair maintained an aggressive rate throughout.
Despite early breakthroughs in the later overs, Farhan carried Pakistan to three figures. He was eventually dismissed in the final over for 100, caught at extra cover, while Pakistan finished with 212.
Farhan now joins an elite list of players with multiple fifty-plus scores in a single World Cup edition. He is the fourth player to score four 50+ innings in a single T20 World Cup, alongside Kohli (2014, 2022), Babar (2021), and Matthew Hayden (2007).
