An earthquake was felt in the capital and several other parts of the country on Thursday.
The tremor struck at around 1:52pm, prompting panic among residents.
Farzana Sultana, a meteorologist at the department’s earthquake monitoring center, said the tremor measured 5.4 on the Richter scale.
The epicentre was located in Ashashuni upazila near the Satkhira border, about 188 kilometres southwest of Dhaka.
The United States Geological Survey reported the magnitude at 5.3, with a depth of 9.8 kilometres.
The quake was felt in Jhalakathi, Khulna and other districts.
Reports said tremors were also experienced in parts of India.
On 19 February, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake had shaken Sylhet.
A series of tremors in recent weeks has heightened public anxiety across the country.
