Abu Hider Rony hailed Bogura as the finest wicket in Bangladesh after producing a match-winning innings of 66 from 42 balls to steer Central Zone to a five-wicket victory in the BCL One-Day Cup.
Primarily known for his bowling, Rony once again demonstrated his growing value as an all-rounder. His unbeaten knock earned him the Player of the Match award and guided Central Zone safely over the line in a tense run chase.
Reflecting on his performance, Rony emphasised his desire to contribute in every department.
“Alhamdulillah. I always try to give my best in all areas of the game. But my first responsibility is bowling,” he said.
In addition to his explosive batting display, Rony also claimed a wicket with the ball. However, he was quick to credit the team effort over individual success.
“We bowled very well on a good surface. The way we made our comeback was impressive, and our bowlers were outstanding. I’m delighted that I could finish the match and help the team secure the win.”
Rony was promoted to No. 5 in the batting order as part of a calculated team strategy. With the run rate under pressure, the management opted to send him up the order to accelerate the scoring.
“It was part of the team plan. The coaches felt that since our run rate had slowed, I should go in earlier and play positively. I’m grateful I was able to execute the plan. The most important thing is that the team won,” he explained.
His aggressive stroke play shifted the momentum at a crucial stage of the innings, ensuring Central Zone regained control and closed out the match comfortably.
After the match, Rony spoke glowingly about the pitch conditions in Bogura.
“It’s an excellent wicket. If I had to rate it, I would definitely say it’s the best in Bangladesh.”
He also highlighted the importance of consistency in professional cricket.
“As professional cricketers, we all aim to contribute to the team. Cricket is unpredictable — one day you perform, another day you may not. Maintaining consistency is vital. I’m pleased with today’s performance and will look to continue contributing in the coming matches.”
The match attracted a strong turnout, with the galleries nearly full despite it being Ramadan. Rony expressed his gratitude to the supporters for their enthusiasm.
“It was wonderful to see such support. I always enjoy playing in Bogura — the wicket, the outfield and the fans are fantastic. Thank you to everyone who came during Ramadan. We hope to see even more supporters at future matches.”
