A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered the freezing of bank accounts and savings certificates belonging to the former director general (DG) of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and additional inspector general of police, Md Harun-or-Rashid, and his wife, Fateha Farvin Luna.
Judge Md Sabbir Foyez of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The matter was confirmed by Md Riaz Hossain, the Bench Assistant of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court.
ACC’s application stated that an investigation is currently underway regarding allegations of money laundering and the acquisition of illegal wealth amounting to Tk1,000 crore against the couple.
The commission sought the freeze after discovering substantial movable assets that are inconsistent with their known sources of income, expressing concerns that the funds might otherwise be transferred.
The court-ordered freeze covers assets exceeding Tk64 lakh, which include various term deposits held at One Bank and savings certificates issued by the Department of National Savings.
