Clash, cocktail explosions spread panic in Madaripur

A clash broke out between two rival groups in Purba Amirabad area of Madaripur on Monday, during which at least 10 cocktails were exploded, witnesses said.

The unrest began after a driver was assaulted, leading to an hour-long confrontation between the groups. Many shopkeepers shut their businesses in fear as the incident took place around 9pm.

Madaripur Sadar Police Station’s Officer-in-charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the incident.

According to locals, Kauser Hossain, a driver of Sonali Paribahan, and his wife were attacked by several youths near DC Bridge. The assault triggered tension from 9pm to 10pm across DC Bridge, College Road, Purba Amirabad, and nearby areas.

Police, army, and Rapid Action Battalion personnel rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. Law enforcers fired tear gas shells to disperse the groups.

OC Abul Kalam said the situation is now stable, with additional police deployed in the area. He added that efforts are underway to identify those involved and bring them to justice.
