BNP has expelled Manjurul Ahsan Munshi from the party following a controversial statement that went viral on social media.

His expulsion includes removal from primary membership and all party positions at every level.

The remarks, allegedly made by Manjurul Ahsan, reportedly threatened to burn down the houses and destroy properties of voters who did not support Jasim Uddin, the truck-symbol candidate of Gono Odhikar Parishad.

Sources said the controversial statement was made around midnight on Monday at Baksar Bazar in Gunai Ghar North Union, during a meeting attended by local BNP leaders and activists, including former central Chhatra Dal assistant general secretary MA Awal Khan. The video of the speech went viral on social media on Tuesday evening.

The controversial remarks have sparked widespread debate in the area, drawing mixed reactions from residents and online users, with NCP candidate Hasnat Abdullah later uploading the video on his Facebook page.

In response, Manjurul Ahsan posted a clarification on Facebook, stating that his speech was edited into a short clip and shared with malicious intent by Hasnat Abdullah and other vested groups. He said the remarks were made out of personal frustration in front of close relatives in his locality and were not meant to incite violence.

Manjurul Ahsan expressed regret over the distortion of his words and called the political misuse of the clip “deeply unfortunate.”
