Zonayed Saki, Chief Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan, has accused certain groups of deliberately creating an unstable and provocative situation in Bancharampur.
Saki, who is contesting the Brahmanbaria-6 constituency as a candidate from the BNP, Ganosamhati Andolan, made the remarks during a press conference held at Bhojanbari Restaurant in Bancharampur on Tuesday.
The event was attended by Bancharampur Upazila BNP President, Agriculturist Mehedi Hasan Polash, General Secretary VP AKM Musa, and leaders from both the BNP and Ganosamhati Andolan.
During the conference, Saki highlighted the long-standing movement by opposition parties for free, fair, and acceptable elections, stressing that the significance of this struggle has only increased following the experiences of the last three national elections.
He noted that the recent mass uprising, which saw many lives lost, was a direct consequence of the political ground laid by the movement against fascism, enforced disappearances, killings, and imprisonments.
“It is now our collective responsibility to ensure a free and fair election,” Saki asserted. “We will not engage in any irregularities ourselves, nor will we allow anyone else to do so.” He added that victory or defeat should be determined solely by the people’s mandate.
Saki also expressed concerns about potential “election engineering,” claiming that certain Jamaat-e-Islami candidates had used social media to encourage supporters to bring bamboo sticks to polling centres.
He referred to a suspicious incident in Bancharampur, where an auto-rickshaw was seen carrying bamboo, describing such actions as deliberate provocations aimed at disrupting the election environment.
Furthermore, the Ganosamhati Andolan leader identified several polling stations as “risky” and confirmed that both the administration and law enforcement agencies have been formally notified.
These polling centres include Pahariakandi Government Primary School, Sonarampur Junior High School, Dorikandi Government Primary School, Monaikhali Haji Mohobbat Ali Sarkar Primary School, Paikarchur Government Primary School, Haidarnagar Government Primary School, Tatuwakandi Government Primary School, and Baherchar (South) Government Primary School.
Saki concluded by urging the administration to take all necessary steps to prevent violence and disorder, ensuring that voters can exercise their right to vote in a peaceful and festive atmosphere.
