An elite operational team of Bangladesh Army 46 Independent Infantry Brigade has detained notorious drug kingpin and top terrorist Masum, better known as “Picchi” Masum, during a targeted raid in the Dhalpur City Colony area of Jatrabari in the capital.
The operation, conducted based on specific intelligence, also resulted in the detention of several associates and the recovery of a significant haul of domestic and foreign weapons along with narcotics.
The mission began with the arrest of Masum’s associate, 33-year-old Naim, following precise intelligence reports. Information obtained during Naim’s initial interrogation led the raiding party to a secret hideout where the top terrorist Picchi Masum was subsequently captured.
Following his arrest, and based on further intelligence, eight operational teams conducted simultaneous raids at eight different locations across the Dhalpur area. These coordinated strikes led to the arrest of two more associates, identified as 32-year-old Nasir and 32-year-old Raju.
During the operation, searches were carried out at the residences of Picchi Masum and his associates, Russel and Alamin, leading to the seizure of various arms and drugs.
The recovered items included a USA-made SIG Sauer M17 pistol, a USA-made 7.65 mm pistol, a revolver, and several local weapons. The team also confiscated quantities of heroin and marijuana, alongside a sum of cash and 16 mobile phones with various SIM and memory cards.
While several key figures were detained, army sources confirmed that five other associates managed to go into hiding. The individuals currently evading arrest are Alamin (35), Harun (47), Russel alias Chashma Russel (39), Sagar (31), and Ambia (44).
The army has stated that operations are continuing to apprehend these fugitives involved in the illegal arms and drug trade. Army officials emphasised that such activities would continue to ensure the country’s overall law and order situation remains stable.
