A large number of elected representatives from the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union and various hall unions have formally joined the BNP and its student wing, the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal.
The development was announced at a press conference held at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan on Friday.
According to the briefing, Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union Vice President Abdur Rashid Jitu has joined the BNP directly, while several elected leaders from different hall unions of the university have joined the Chhatra Dal.
Those joining the student wing include Shaheed Salam Barkat Hall Vice President Maruf Hasan and General Secretary Md Masud Rana, as well as A F M Kamaluddin Hall Assistant General Secretary Ripon Mondol. Although they were not physically present at the programme, their names were formally announced.
Other hall union leaders who joined the Chhatra Dal are Nawab Salimullah Hall Vice President Ibn Shihab, Al Beruni Hall Vice President Rifat Ahmed Shakil, A F M Kamaluddin Hall Vice President G M M Raihan Kabir, Rabindranath Tagore Hall Vice President Amit Banik, Nawab Faizunnesa Hall Vice President Bubli Ahmed, Begum Khaleda Zia Hall Vice President Farhana Rahman Bithi, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall General Secretary Shahriar Nazim Riyad, and Shaheed Rafiq Jabbar Hall General Secretary Shariful Islam.
Party sources described the move as a significant shift in campus and hall union politics at Jahangirnagar University.
