The Railway Ministry has directed all concerned authorities to take maximum precautionary measures to prevent any attempts to sabotage rail services ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election and referendum.
In an office order signed by Fatema Tuz Johra, senior assistant secretary (additional charge), the ministry warned that vested-interest groups might attempt to create instability by targeting rail services.
The order said such groups could engage in sabotage or other disruptive actions against the rail system, which serves as a key public transport network.
To prevent any harm to passengers or damage to railway assets, the ministry has instructed all relevant authorities to develop and implement comprehensive safety measures.
Officials have also been asked to monitor progress and submit regular reports to the ministry.
The directive further urged the public to report any suspicious activities or attempts to damage trains, railway infrastructure or endanger passengers.
Passengers and residents are advised to immediately notify staff at the nearest railway station, gatekeepers, or the Railway Police. Incidents can also be reported through Bangladesh Railway’s hotline at 131.
The ministry’s order comes amid heightened security concerns as the country prepares for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum.
