Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz has announced a suite of environmental development plans for Uttara Sector 18, featuring the creation of a Tree Museum, waste and storm water treatment systems, and the “Umbrella Project.”
Speaking at an exchange meeting titled “Actions to Protect Security and Environment in Condominium Areas” held at the Korotoa Building of the Rajuk Uttara Apartment Project, the Administrator emphasised the corporation’s commitment to transforming the area into a sustainable gated community.
The event, organised by the Uttara Sector-18 Welfare Association, served as a platform for Mohammad Ejaz – who is also the former Chairman of the River and Delta Research Centre – to outline a roadmap for environmental improvement.
His proposed initiatives include intensified mosquito control and the implementation of regular, efficient waste management protocols.
Beyond environmental concerns, the administrator assured residents of significant infrastructure upgrades, including a link road connecting the Uttara South Metro Rail Station to Jasimuddin. He also pledged the introduction of a circular minibus service within the Rajuk Apartment Project, the establishment of a primary health centre, and the installation of security checkpoints.
During the discussion, speakers and residents highlighted several urgent requirements for the sector, such as the construction of a graveyard, the establishment of a police outpost, and enhanced lake management.
There were also calls for the provision of adequate sports and recreation facilities specifically designed for women, children, and the youth.
The meeting was presided over by the Association’s President, Bir Muktijoddha Md. Azhar Ali Mia, and moderated by General Secretary Faizul Islam, a journalist and author.
A wide array of officials and local representatives addressed the gathering, including former Additional Secretary Shawkat Akbar, agriculturist Dr Abu Bakar Siddique, and the association’s vice-president, agriculturist Ahmed Ali Chowdhury Iqbal.
Other notable speakers included Umme Habiba, Deputy Conservator of Forests; Syeda Monira Akhter Khatun, former Director of Rajuk and Founder President of RUAP; Md. Shahidullah, Senior Vice President of Jamuna Bank; and Md. Ashraf Ali, Senior Vice President of the Rajuk Uttara Apartment Block-A Owners Welfare Association.
The meeting also saw contributions from AKM Zahidul Islam, Md Masum Billah, Md Abdul Malek, Maulana Md Mosharraf Hossain, Latif Ehsan, Saifur Rahman, Russel Hossain, and Abrar Hanif, the founder and CEO of One Bag Trash.
As part of the proceedings, Md. Mahmudul Hossain Masum, Joint General Secretary of the Block-A Owners Welfare Association, delivered a photographic presentation documenting the current state of Sector 18.
The programme concluded with the Association honouring the DNCC Administrator and awarding medals and cash prizes to local youth who participated in a cleanliness competition focused on waste removal.
