The Coast Guard arrested 10 suspected drug traffickers and seized a large consignment of yaba tablets worth about Tk1.25 crore in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, media officer of the Coast Guard, disclosed the information on Friday morning.
He said the Coast Guard Station Teknaf conducted a special operation on the Naf River near Nayapara under Teknaf police station at around 1pm on Thursday, based on confidential information.
During the drive, Coast Guard members searched two suspicious wooden boats in the area.
The search led to the recovery of 25,000 pieces of yaba tablets, estimated to be worth Tk1.25 crore, along with Tk28,000 in cash. Ten drug traffickers were arrested on the spot.
The seized narcotics, cash, and the arrested suspects were handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action.
The Coast Guard said it will continue such operations in the future to prevent drug trafficking along the coastal belt.
