Bangladesh has successfully brought back 128 Bangladeshi fishermen who were detained in India through a mutual repatriation arrangement between the two neighbouring countries on Thursday. Concurrently, 23 Indian fishermen who were held in Bangladesh were repatriated to their home country.
The handover took place at the International Maritime Boundary Line in the Bay of Bengal, where the Bangladesh Coast Guard received the 128 fishermen along with five Bangladeshi-owned fishing boats from the Indian Coast Guard.
In a reciprocal gesture, the Bangladesh Coast Guard handed over the 23 Indian fishermen and two Indian-owned fishing boats to the authorities.
The repatriation operation was a coordinated effort involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
Other key entities that worked in conjunction to complete the process included the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the Ministry of Shipping, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Bangladesh Police, and local administration, alongside other relevant agencies.
