Two men were injured, allegedly by muggers, during separate incidents in Dhaka’s Mirpur and Khilkhet areas early Thursday.
The victims are Mohammad Hossain Dipu, 45, a grocery shopkeeper, and Md Liton, 28, a construction worker. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
Both were robbed of cash and mobile phones, said DMCH Police Camp In-charge Md Faruk. Respective police stations have been notified, he added.
Dipu was shot in the left leg near his residence in Mirpur Section-12. His brother-in-law, Shuvo, heard his screams on the road between 5:30am and 6am.
Shuvo said, “I found Dipu critically injured and then took him to Kurmitola General Hospital. Later Dipu was transferred to the DMCH,” he added.
Dipu said, “While I was standing on the road in front of the house smoking a cigarette, a motorcycle stopped a little distance away. There were two to three people on the bike. Then they gradually came near me.
Even then I did not understand that they were muggers. Coming near, one took out a knife and told me to take out everything I had. Then they themselves took out the wallet from my pocket. After that, when they wanted to take the phone, I resisted, and at first, there was a scuffle. Then someone shot from behind.”
The muggers looted Tk17,000 in cash and fled, he added.
In another incident, Liton was attacked near the Khilkhet bus stand around 4 am. He, from Dinajpur, was returning to work from his village when he was stopped by three muggers near the railway line.
His colleague, Md Mohsin Islam, reported that the muggers held a knife to Liton and began searching his bags and pockets. When Liton attempted to resist, he was stabbed three times in the left shoulder. The attackers fled with Tk500 and his mobile phone.
