A suicide bomber struck a residence late Friday, killing at least five individuals and wounding ten others, in a brutal attack targeting a local peace committee member.

The incident occurred at a wedding gathering near Qureshi Morr, Dera Ismail Khan District Police Officer (DPO) Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada confirmed.

He stated that the explosion ripped through the home of peace committee chief Noor Alam Mehsud during celebratory festivities. Attendees were engaged in traditional dance when the assailant detonated the explosives.

The force of the blast caused significant structural damage, collapsing the roof and trapping victims under debris, which initially hindered rescue efforts.

“The explosion was a suicide blast,” DPO Sahibzada told the media. He further announced that an emergency had been declared at the District Headquarter Hospital to manage the casualties.

Rescue services swiftly responded to the tragedy. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi, in an official statement, confirmed the retrieval of five fatalities and the transportation of ten injured persons for medical treatment.

“Seven ambulances, a fire vehicle, and a disaster vehicle were immediately dispatched to the site, and rescue operations are ongoing,” he detailed.

Security forces have sealed off the area as investigations commence. Preliminary information indicates that among the deceased is peace committee leader Waheedullah Mehsud, also known as Jigri Mehsud.

The attack has drawn sharp condemnation from provincial leadership. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi denounced the blast and demanded a comprehensive report from the provincial police chief.

He issued directives for law enforcement agencies to expedite the investigation and apprehend the perpetrators. “The responsible parties will be brought to justice. The provincial government shares the grief of the martyrs’ families and will provide all possible assistance,” CM Afridi asserted.

Echoing the sentiment, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed profound sorrow over the loss of life and sought a detailed report on the incident. He emphasised ensuring that the injured receive optimal medical care.

This violent episode follows a recent pattern of assaults on peace committees in the region. Earlier this month, four peace committee members were slain by armed attackers in Bannu district.

In November 2025, a similar attack on a peace committee office in Bannu claimed seven lives, including a “good Talib” – a term for reformed militants – and his relatives.
