Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, the Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Peer Saheb Charmonai, has called upon the public to work tirelessly for the victory of the “Hand Fan” symbol to ensure basic rights and the establishment of a humane and just society.
Speaking as the chief guest at a massive election rally held at 4pm at Kajlarpar in Jatrabari, Dhaka, on Friday, he expressed his support for Haji Md Ibrahim, the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Dhaka-5 constituency.
During his address, Rezaul Karim remarked that despite 55 years of independence, the fundamental rights of the people have yet to be secured.
He noted that while the 1971 Liberation War was fought against exploitation, deprivation, and discrimination, the living standards of ordinary citizens have seen no expected change, leaving the country with little more than a flag.
Rezaul Karim further criticised the previous government’s “excessive subservience,” claiming it has led India to treat Bangladesh as if it were one of its own states, thereby questioning the nation’s independence and sovereignty.
To rectify this, he stated that God-fearing (takwaban) leaders must be elected, as a just society cannot be established without Islamic principles.
He highlighted that Islami Andolan Bangladesh does not compromise with injustice for the sake of power and was at the forefront during the July mass uprising to protect the country.
He urged the residents of Demra and Jatrabari to vote for the ‘Hand Fan’ to ensure peace and development, asserting that the party campaigns for the welfare of Islam, the country, and humanity.
The candidate for Dhaka-5, Haji Md Ibrahim, who presided over the meeting, highlighted his record as a two-time elected councillor of Ward 67 of Dhaka South City Corporation.
He pledged to build a safe, modern, and humane Dhaka-5 free from extortion, occupation, and corruption, drawing on his experience of serving with honesty, transparency, and accountability.
The rally saw a massive influx of leaders, activists, and people from various professions who arrived in processions from across the Demra Road and Jatrabari areas, eventually turning the gathering into a “sea of people.”
The event was attended by several senior figures, including Presidium Member Mahbubur Rahman, Central Office Secretary Lokman Hossain Jafri, Central Dhaka Divisional Organising Secretary Mufti Delwar Hossain Saki, and Central Assistant Publicity and Office Secretary KM Shariatullah.
Other notable attendees included Central Member Dr Shahidul Islam, Acting President of Dhaka City South Alhaj Anwar Hossain, and the President of the Dhaka-5 Election Management Committee, Alhaj Altaf Hossain, alongside various officials from the party’s city, police station, and ward-level associate organisations.
The programme concluded with a peaceful atmosphere following a special prayers (munajat) conducted by Rezaul Karim for the welfare of the nation and the establishment of justice.
