Former President Abdul Hamid will be brought under the law if found guilty during the investigation, stated Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
Responding to journalists’ questions on Monday regarding the return of the July coup accused former president, the adviser said, “After the investigation is completed, whoever is found guilty will be brought under the law. You yourselves always say that the innocent should not be punished under any circumstances. So let us conduct the investigation. Once the investigation is over, no guilty person will be spared—we will definitely bring them under the law.”
When asked why no action has been taken against Hamid yet, the adviser replied, “You yourselves have requested me, you yourselves have said—and I am upholding your words—why should an innocent person be punished without proof? Those found guilty will be punished.”
Regarding those who faced immediate action over Hamid’s departure from the country, the advisor stated, “A three-member committee of advisers has been formed for this matter. Once their recommendations are received, action will be taken against the guilty. If they are not found guilty, they will be reinstated to their respective positions.”
