Four candidates have withdrawn their nominations from two parliamentary constituencies in Jhalakathi on the final day of nomination withdrawal for the 13th National Parliament election.
Among those who stepped down, three candidates declared their support for Jamaat contenders, while one withdrew to support a BNP candidate.
The candidates submitted their withdrawal applications to the District Returning Officer on Tuesday.
In the Jhalakathi -1 (Rajapur-Kathalia) constituency, independent candidate Golam Azam Saikat withdrew his nomination to support the BNP-nominated candidate, Rafiqul Islam Jamal.
Additionally, in the same seat, NCP-nominated candidate Mahmuda Alam Mitu and Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Iran withdrew their candidacies in support of Jamaat candidate Faizul Haque.
In Jhalakathi-2, AB Party nominee Sheikh Jamal Hossain withdrew his nomination to support Jamaat candidate Sheikh Neyamul Karim. Following this decision, a joint press conference was organised by the AB Party and the district Jamaat at the Jhalakathi Press Club on Tuesday.
