Bangladesh climbed to the top of the SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship table on Wednesday, beating Sri Lanka 6-3 at Nonthaburi Stadium in Bangkok to move clear on 10 points from four matches.
Sri Lanka landed the first punch and caught Bangladesh cold with two early goals. Bangladesh did not panic and leaned on their captain to steady the ship.
Sabina Khatun dragged her side back into the contest with two first-half goals. Her movement between the lines unsettled Sri Lanka and restored belief before the break at 2-2.
The second half followed a familiar pattern under Saeid Khodarahmi. Bangladesh pressed higher, moved the ball quicker and pinned Sri Lanka deep in their own half.
Matsushima Sumaya fired Bangladesh into the lead and shifted the momentum decisively. Sri Lanka dropped into survival mode as wave after wave of green shirts flooded forward.
Bangladesh kept attacking and turned control into goals. They struck six times in total, while Sri Lanka’s late effort never threatened a comeback.
Bangladesh’s defence then shut the door. Sri Lanka pushed numbers forward but found no space as Bangladesh managed the closing stages with calm authority.
The win lifted Bangladesh from second to first, moving them above India, who sit on nine points from four matches. Sri Lanka remain near the foot of the table after another difficult outing.
Bangladesh now look firmly in charge of their own destiny. Matches against Pakistan on January 23 and Maldives on January 25 will decide whether they finish the job and lift the title.
