Police have arrested a man nicknamed “Psycho Samrat” for his alleged involvement in at least six murders, including that of a teenage girl, across various locations in Savar.
The suspect, identified as Moshiur Rahman Khan Samrat, 40, was apprehended after CCTV footage linked him to a series of gruesome killings, according to a press release issued by police on Monday.
The suspect, son of the late Salam and late Rezia of Bank Colony, Savar, reportedly operated under the guise of a vagrant. According to police, Samrat confessed during preliminary interrogation to committing six murders – four individual killings and one double homicide.
Final incidents and arrest
The investigation gained momentum following the discovery of two burnt bodies on 18 January 2026. Acting on a 999 emergency call, Savar Model Police recovered the remains of an unidentified 25-year-old male and a 13-year-old female from the bathroom of an abandoned municipal community centre in the Parvatinagar area.
Investigators reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity spotted a man behaving suspiciously, whose movements matched those of a local vagrant. This led to the immediate arrest of Samrat, who subsequently admitted to his involvement in the latest double murder and four previous incidents.
Trail of terror
The abandoned Savar Municipality Community Centre in Ward No. 05, Parvatinagar, appears to have been a primary site for the killings:
On 29 August 2025, an unidentified male (approximately 30) was found on the second floor. He had been strangled with a scarf, his hands were tied with a gamcha (traditional towel), and his body was in an advanced state of decomposition.
On 11 October 2025, the body of an unidentified woman (approx. 30) was discovered near the bathroom on the second floor with sharp weapon wounds to her head and neck.
On 19 December 2025, police recovered the burnt and skeletal remains of an unidentified male (approx. 35) from the same bathroom. The body was so badly charred that only the skull and portions of the lower legs remained identifiable.
Murder of Asma Begum
The suspect also reportedly confessed to the murder of Asma Begum, 75. Her body was found on 4 July 2025 behind a tea stall near the Savar Model Mosque on the west side of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
Although initially filed as an unnatural death case by her grandson, Mithu Mia, a post-mortem report later confirmed she had been strangled to death.
Legal Proceedings
Savar Model Police have filed multiple cases under Sections 302, 201, and 34 of the Penal Code regarding these incidents. In all instances, the victims’ bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital in Dhaka for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact causes of death.
Police officials stated that the suspect’s pattern involved premeditated murder followed by attempts to hide or destroy evidence by abandoning bodies in secluded areas or setting them on fire. Further investigations are ongoing to verify if there are additional victims.
