A new political platform Network for People’s Action (NPA) was formally launched on Friday at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, marking its entry into Bangladesh’s political landscape.
The platform begins its journey under the slogan ‘Jonoganer shakti, agamir mukti’ (People’s power, freedom for the future) and has outlined five core principles – democracy, equality, human dignity, social justice, and the protection of life and nature.
The event drew a large gathering of supporters and well-wishers, with a stage and pavilion set up on the Shaheed Minar premises. NPA leaders urged citizens to unite in building a people-centered political force.
In its declaration, the platform criticised the existing governance structure, saying state institutions have become loyal to ruling elites rather than the people.
NPA aims to reform these institutions to protect citizens’ rights and establish service-oriented governance.
The platform called for effective separation of powers among the executive, judiciary, and legal systems, and emphasized decentralized, financially independent, and autonomous local government.
On the economic front, NPA pledged to combat corruption, end syndicate-based control, and build a self-reliant, production-driven, and welfare-oriented economy, including reducing agricultural production costs and offering simplified agricultural loans for farmers, ensuring fair prices through subsidies, establishing fair wages for industrial workers, and progressive taxation.
Highlighting environmental concerns, NPA criticized unplanned development and mega-projects for harming rivers, forests, and urban ecosystems, and pledged to pursue sustainable development.
The platform also reaffirmed the state’s responsibility in education, health, employment, and social security, promising equal rights and opportunities for all citizens regardless of religion, gender, or class, while protecting freedom of expression, religious liberty, life, and property.
